What is airtouch balayage?

Airtouch balayage is an advanced colouring technique that is becoming increasingly popular in the hairdressing industry and also with our clients. The technique takes the strengths of classic balayage and brings an innovative approach into play: Using the hairdryer shorter hair and split ends are separated from the rest of the hair strands. As a result, we only colour the thin strands of hair, creating a particularly natural and seamless colour gradient that mimics the look of sun-kissed hair. The advantage of airtouch balayage is that it requires less frequent touch-ups as it creates smooth transitions and makes the regrowth less noticeable. This technique is particularly suitable for people who prefer a low-maintenance and natural look. As stylists, we love airtouch balayage for the variety and possibilities to get creative with colour tones, shades and individual highlights.

Step by step instructions for airtouch

To help you create natural highlights with airtouch, we have step-by-step instructions for you:

  1. Preparation: Start by dividing the clean, dry hair into sections.

  2. Blow out: Thoroughly comb out the strands from the roots. For airtouch, we need a hairdryer with which we blow out about 50% of the hair from top to bottom with cold air for each section. Only switch on the hairdryer when it is positioned at the root of the strand. The amount and length of hair that is blown out depends on where you hold the strand. This leaves only a thin strand of hair.

  3. Colouring: Now apply the colour mass to the thin strand of hair. This technique prevents harsh colour lines and ensures a smooth transition.

  4. Setting time: Leave the colour on according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  5. Rinse: Rinse the colour thoroughly and use toner, colour sealant and conditioner.

  6. Styling: First dry, then style, style the hair as you want it.

This method creates subtle, natural highlights and is ideal for a soft colour gradient. For the perfect airtouch balayage result, we recommend attending one of our seminars. Here you will learn all the tricks and tips for numerous hair styles as well as how to use the practical Colorina tool.

You can tell that to your hairdresser: Hot air to the hairdryer

Whether hair dryer, foehn or blow dryer, the general term for a hand-held hair dryer as we know it is derived from foehn, the warm downdraught. In the context of hairdryers, hairdryer is also a deonym, a brand name that has become established as the name of a product, such as Tempo or Tesa.

Airotuch in, balayage out?

We are often asked by our salon guests whether balayage is no longer fashionable and whether Airtouch is currently "in". We know one thing: hairdressing trends are constantly changing. Balayage is still very popular and completely contemporary. However, stylists and style-conscious people are always looking for the next hot trend. It's currently called Airtouch, a technique developed by Russian colourist Vladminir Sarbashev that has taken the world by storm. The soft, airy gradients and natural texture, which give an effortless and fresh impression, have made the modern Airtouch technique very popular. We usually combine airtouch with balayage and utilise the strengths of both styles. After all, balayage is far from being "out" thanks to the soft colour nuances. Rather, many of our guests look forward to the balayage style, which we also master with or without Airtouch. Our Colorina tool is open to any style.
