Balayage: The freehand highlights technique
Hey lovelies,
No other hair colouring technique is as popular with us as balayage. No wonder, because the result is lively and elegant colour gradients that give every hairstyle a unique elegance. Balayage is also the go-to solution for bridging the gap until the natural hair has grown out. We deal with balayage on a daily basis in our salon, so our experience has enabled us to optimise the technique. With Colorina, the hair colouring tool from our master hairdresser Elvina, we can achieve beautiful balayage hairstyles in a much shorter time. But enough about that, let's start from the beginning.

What is balayage?
Balayage is a hair colouring technique in which the colouring agent is applied freehand to the strands. In contrast to conventional highlights, the roots are left free and only the lengths and ends are coloured. The colour is "swept" over each strand by hand, hence the name: the French word balayer means to sweep or brush. The strands are dyed with lighter or darker shades of colour in this sweeping motion so that the overall look appears harmonious. To enhance the soft colour transitions and shimmer, no foil is used in the balayage technique.
The balayage application technique is suitable for almost any hair. The result is particularly striking with long hairstyles. Whether blonde, caramel or brown, the natural transitions and multi-faceted play of colours add elegance to the look.
Balayage techniques
There really are many hair colouring techniques, and balayage alone is available in numerous versions. Classic balayage is characterised by smooth transitions and subtle colour accents. Ombre balayage offers a stronger contrast between the roots and the tips, while sombre balayage is a softer version. Foliage balayage combines the techniques of balayage and foils for a more intense result. Babylights balayage focuses on fine, light-coloured highlights that create a sun-kissed effect. With Melted balayage, light and dark nuances merge, with light blonde on a brunette base with caramel tones being particularly popular.
Ecaille balayage, inspired by tortoiseshell, offers warm, golden tones. Pastel balayage experiments with delicate colours such as pink or lavender. Reverse balayage reverses the classic approach by using darker tones on light-coloured hair. Flamboyage combines foils and balayage for a unique look. Vivid balayage uses bold, vibrant colours. Money piece balayage emphasises the face with bright strands around the face frame.
Sun-kissed strands in every hair
Whether blonde, brown or red, long hair or shoulder-length, balayage is suitable for almost every hair style.
Balayage for blonde hair
Blonde hair benefits particularly from the balayage method, as different shades from light blonde to dark blonde can blend harmoniously into one another. This creates a sun-kissed effect that frames the face and creates highlights. Balayage in blonde hair requires less frequent touch-ups as the natural hairline is not clearly visible, making it a low-maintenance option.

Balayage for caramel blonde hair
Balayage gives caramel blonde hair a harmonious blend of golden and brown shades that are ideal for a soft but striking look. Caramel blonde tones are given depth and dimension by combining different shades to create a natural transition. Both subtle and bolder effects can be combined with warm tones. The combination of balayage with caramel blonde hair offers you an elegant and stylish look.

Balayage for dark blonde hair
Balayage and dark blonde hair are a first-class combination and can achieve impressive results. The balayage conditioning technique gives the hair a soft, natural lightening and creates a sun-kissed look. The targeted application of colour creates soft, flowing transitions that give the hair more depth and dimension. For dark blonde hair in particular, balayage helps to emphasise the natural hair colour while creating a fresh and modern look.

How to do your own balayage
The balayage colouring technique requires skill and experience, so if you're not quite sure, you should leave it to a professional instead of doing it yourself. For experts and amateur colourists, here is a short guide on how to master the best results with the innovative Colorina tool.
This is how it works:
For a natural look, you should choose colours that are around two or three shades lighter than the natural colour of your hair. When colouring, make sure you leave the roots free, this is no problem at all with Colorina. However, you can slightly tease the roots to make the transition appear even more fluid. You can also create more volume by colouring the strands at different heights.
Materials required:
blonding
Colorina hair dye set
old shirt for protection during the dyeing process
hair clips
Start by using a comb to divide the hair into six equal sections. Pull the parting as usual and divide downwards from there on both sides. Secure four of the upper sections as small buns.
Now apply the colour with the Colorina tool, you can do without the brush. Start with the bottom section by selecting a wide strand and applying the colour to both sides of the strand with one pull of the tongs. Start at the outer edges from ear height and work your way to the ends. Continue in this way until the colour has been applied to all sections. Then wait until the application time is over. After rinsing, use conditioner and treatment to moisturise the hair. The balayage is finished.

You can tell your hairdresser: The balayage price
Even if the name can be translated from French as sweeping, the technique has nothing to do with simple sweeping. In fact, the price of balayage in the early days was between €500 and €1,500 due to the effort involved and the technical finesse required.
